Treatment and Diet for Infertility
Infertility is a rising concern, affecting about 6% of married women of childbearing age. While some causes of infertility are uncontrollable, nutrition, lifestyle and healthy body weight for both partners can have a significant impact on the ability to conceive.
For women, it is recommended to maintain a healthy weight and consume foods rich in folic acid, iron, and other important nutrients to prepare for pregnancy and enhance fertility. Men should also maintain a healthy body weight and follow a balanced eating pattern, as male obesity may alter hormone levels, leading to low sperm count and reduced mobility.
It is advisable to consume fruits and vegetables that contain vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that may help create strong sperm. Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight can increase the chances of getting pregnant. Weight extremes can alter hormone levels and throw ovulation off schedule. For women who are overweight or obese, weight loss may improve fertility, whereas underweight women may experience irregular menstrual cycles or stop ovulating altogether.
High-intensity activities, eating disorders, and restricted diets can also increase the risk of infertility.
At NVM Diet and Lifestyle Clinic, we devise treatment and dietary approaches for both partners tailored to their specific needs and body types. Our diet plan for enhancing fertility includes high-fibre, low-glycemic carbohydrate-rich foods rich in iron, multivitamins and minerals, etc.
